MASM32 version 8 is a working development for programmers who are interested in either learning or writing 32 bit Microsoft assembler (MASM). Installation is an automated process that will install on the local drive of your choice. MASM32 will not install on a network drive.

MASM32 comes ready to run with its own editor that is already set up to write and build 32 bit MASM assembler programs. Version 8 has the latest version of Vladimir Kim's VKdebug, a completely new floating point library written by Ray Filiatreault, a new system for coding dialogs that does not need a resource editor, a code wizard to create working application skeletons for either applications or prototyping in a few minutes, a prebuilt template system on the menus that can be extended by the programmer and a new scripting capacity in the editor that can automate many tasks.

MASM32 has some new utilities that can build IMPORT libraries from include file or alternatively build INCLUDE files from libraries. It has additional example code including examples for the new dialog capacity. Ernie Murphy's COM package is included for programmers who are interested in COM programming and it also contains the OOP design code by NaN and Thomas. A subset of Iczelion's tutorials is included for programmers who prefer this style of learning material.

MASM32 comes with an extensive range of reference material in WINHELP format that is already set up in the editor. The help files range from MASM specific information to both integer and floating point opcodes, a dedicated help file for the new floating point library, a seperate help file for designing dialogs under the new dialog system, Agner Fog's pentium optimisation manual, MASM32 library functions and an introduction to help get programmers up to pace and a help file for the debug libraries. The overview for MASM32 is written in HTML format so it can be read in a web browser.

MASM32 assumes that the programmers who will use it already have experience in 32 bit Windows API programming using compilers and have done some work in assembler. It is not designed as a beginners package and it does not have the support for beginners to learn the basic concepts about assembler. It is recommended that beginners to programming learns a compiler like C/C++ Pascal/Delphi or PowerBASIC before they start on an assembler as this will produce the necessary experience to deal with concepts like registers, data sizes or registers, data types, assembler mnemonics, system API calls and different calling conventions. The learner can always come back to assembler once they are familiar and confortable with a compiler.

All of the files and programs in MASM32 are copyright software owned by a range of different people and companies. The user should become familiar with the different copyrights and be willing to comply with the rights and responsibilities afforded to the user under copyright by the different copyright holders. MASM32 is true freeware, it is not for sale and cannot be sold or included in or bundled with any form of commercial software.
